1. Einleitung
Welcome to NextRead ("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use our mobile and web application and related services (the "Service").
By using NextRead, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Welche Daten wir erheben
We collect the following types of information:
- Account information — your name, email address, and authentication credentials provided during sign-up (via Google, Apple, or email).
- Library & readlist data — the books you add, mark as read, or save to your readlist, including titles, authors, categories, and page counts.
- Reviews & ratings — the star ratings and written reviews you create and choose to share with the community.
- Reading activity — stats derived from your library, such as pages read, books per month, and top genres.
- 15-minute reads — where you are in each 15-minute read, how long you've spent reading, and which reads you've finished.
- Highlights & notes — the passages you highlight in 15-minute reads and the notes you add to them.
- Streaks, XP & leagues — the activity points (XP) you earn, your daily reading streak, and your weekly league, group and rank.
- Time zone — your device's time zone, so your streak follows your local day and reminders arrive at the right time.
- Notifications — a push token for each device you sign in on, and your notification preferences (such as your daily reminder time).
- Feedback — what you send us from Settings → Send feedback or the in-app "How's NextRead so far?" question, with your app version, device type and language. We see it with your account so we can reply.
- Emails — the emails we send you and when, and whether you asked for reading tips by email.
- Social data — the readers you follow and public profile information you provide.
- Sign-up quiz — if you sign up at nextread.club/start: your answers (what you like to read, your daily goal and reminder time), the reads it picked, and the campaign tags of the link you came from (such as which post), so we know which posts bring readers.
- Reports — what you write when you report a mistake in a 15-minute read, with the chapter you were in. Our editors see the report, not who sent it.
- Usage data — app usage patterns, crash reports, and device information collected for diagnostics and service improvement.
3. Wie wir deine Daten nutzen
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the NextRead Service.
- Generate personalized book recommendations based on the books you read and rate.
- Run the reading features, such as quizzes and Daily Recall.
- Display your shared reviews and library to the community and to readers who follow you.
- Maintain your reading stats and achievements.
- Save your place in 15-minute reads so you can continue where you left off, and keep your highlights and notes.
- Run daily streaks, XP and weekly leagues, and send the reminders and league updates you choose to receive.
- Respond to your requests or support queries.
4. KI-Verarbeitung und Drittanbieter
NextRead uses the following third-party services to deliver its features:
- Google Books — used to search for and retrieve book details, covers, and metadata.
- The New York Times — used to provide Best Sellers lists in the Explore feed.
- Firebase (Google) — used for authentication and secure sign-in.
- Google Analytics for Firebase — used to understand how the website and app are used (see section 6).
- AI providers — book titles, authors, and short text you submit are processed by our AI partners to generate recommendations and quizzes. Your highlights, notes and reading progress are never sent to them. We do not use this data to train third-party models.
- Expo push service — delivers push notifications through Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging. It receives your device's push token and the text of each notification.
- Sentry — receives error reports when something breaks, with your account id but no email, name or reading data, so we can fix it.
- Resend — sends our emails. It receives your email address and the content of each email.
15-minute reads are original interpretations of books, carefully written by us and reviewed by our editors. We draft them with the help of AI tools and our editors check and edit every one. They are not affiliated with or endorsed by the books' authors or publishers, and none of your personal data is used to create them.
5. Was andere Leser sehen
- Your league — the readers in your weekly league group see your display name, profile photo, weekly XP and rank.
- Your profile — readers who view your profile see your current and longest streak, your XP and your league, alongside the reading stats it already shows.
- Private to you — your highlights, notes, reading progress and time spent reading in 15-minute reads are only visible to you.
You can turn notifications off at any time in Settings → Notifications in the app, or in your phone's settings.
We email you about your account: confirming your email, resetting your password, and your subscription (when it starts, before a free trial ends or a yearly plan renews, and when it ends). Reading tips and new reads come only if you ask for them, and every one has an unsubscribe link; you can also turn them off in Settings → Notifications.
6. Analyse und deine Wahl
We use Google Analytics for Firebase on nextread.club, the web app, and the iOS and Android apps to learn which pages and features readers use, so we can improve them and see which of our posts help people find us.
- What is collected — pages and screens viewed, feature events (for example finishing a quiz, adding a book, or starting a free trial), the link or campaign that brought you, device and browser type, and approximate location (country or city, derived from your IP address, which Google Analytics does not store). On the web this uses cookies (
_ga,_ga_*); in the apps it uses an app-instance identifier. - What is not — no advertising identifiers in Google Analytics, no ad personalisation, no book titles or review text, and we never sell your data.
- Measuring our ads (Meta) — on nextread.club only, with the same choice as analytics, the Meta Pixel tells Meta (Facebook, Instagram) when someone who came from one of our ads finishes the sign-up quiz, creates an account or starts a free trial, so we can see which ads work. It uses Meta's cookies (
_fbp,_fbc). When you start a trial or subscribe on nextread.club, our server sends Meta the same event and, later, your first payment, with your email and account id scrambled (hashed), your IP address and browser type, and the plan's price. Meta acts as our processor for this and may also use it as described in its own privacy policy. The apps don't use the Meta Pixel. - Your choice — if you are in Europe we ask before turning analytics and ad measurement on. Everyone can change their choice at any time: "Privacy choices" at the bottom of nextread.club, or Settings → Privacy in the app. Your choice is stored in a cookie (
nr_analytics_consent) shared by nextread.club and the web app, or on your device in the apps. - Retention — analytics data is kept for up to 14 months, then deleted automatically.
7. Speicherung und Sicherheit
Your data is stored securely on our servers. We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
8. Aufbewahrung
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, unless we are required to retain it for legal reasons. This includes your 15-minute read progress, highlights and notes, streaks, XP and league history, push tokens, notification preferences and the record of emails we sent you.
Two things outlive an account, without identifying you: the mistakes you reported in a read (kept for our editors, no longer linked to you), and a one-way hash of your email address if you started a free trial, so the same address can't start a second one. The hash can't be turned back into your email.
9. Deine Rechte
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
- Data portability (receive your data in a structured format).
Delete your NextRead account
You can delete your NextRead account and its data at any time:
- In the app: Me → Settings (the gear) → Account → Delete account, then confirm. It's deleted right away.
- By email: write to social@nextread.club from the email address of your account, asking us to delete it. We delete it within 30 days and confirm by email.
What is deleted, and the two things kept without identifying you, are listed under data retention above. Deleting the account cancels a Google Play or web subscription; an App Store subscription can only be cancelled by you, in your App Store settings.
To exercise any other rights, please contact us at social@nextread.club.
10. Datenschutz für Kinder
NextRead is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
11. Änderungen dieser Erklärung
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through the app. Continued use of NextRead after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
